Citi is embarking on a multi-year technology transformation initiative in the Wholesale Lending Credit Risk (WLCR) technology space. As part of this journey, we are building a next-generation platform supporting Messaging, API, and Workflow components for loan services across the bank. This is a unique opportunity to work on greenfield development using cutting-edge technologies in a hybrid-agile environment.

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated, hands-on Senior Developer with excellent Java and data skills. This role requires strong technical design expertise, proficiency in performance tuning, and the ability to own the full development cycle of cloud-native microservices.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain Java-based applications using Spring Boot, ensuring high performance and reliability.

• Implement unit tests, integration tests, and performance tests using JUnit, Mockito, etc.

• Design and architect scalable microservices with a focus on MongoDB and Redis for caching.

• Own end-to-end service development, deployment, and support within a cloud-native environment.

• Write high-performance parallel processing logic using multi-threading/multi-processing techniques.

• Participate in peer code reviews, ensure code quality, and maintain documentation.

• Collaborate with global development teams, onshore and offshore, for seamless delivery.

• Troubleshoot and optimize services using debugging and performance tools.

• Evaluate and adopt modern development tools and frameworks to enhance productivity.

• Ensure compliance with regulatory and firm standards, while maintaining a high level of transparency and risk awareness.

Required Skills & Experience

• 10–12 years of hands-on software development experience in Java and Spring Boot.

• Expertise in:

  • Spring Framework stack (Boot, Security, Web, Data)

  • Java multithreading, collections, OOP/OOD, design patterns

  • Parsing XML/JSON, handling I/O and binary data

• Proficiency in SQL (Oracle preferred) and REST APIs.

• Experience in Microservices architecture, containerization, and deployment pipelines.

• Experience with CI/CD tools (Tekton, Harness, Jenkins), code quality tools, and automated testing.

• Strong understanding of Agile and Waterfall SDLC methodologies.

• Proven experience in debugging, tuning, and optimizing backend services.

• Effective communication skills and ability to interact with senior stakeholders.

Nice to Have

• Messaging systems: Kafka, RabbitMQ, IBM MQ, ActiveMQ, Tibco, etc.

• Web servers: Tomcat, Jetty, Apache HTTPD.

• Automation tools: Jenkins, Autosys.

• Containerization: Docker, Kubernetes.

• Monitoring tools: Dynatrace, AppDynamics.

• Caching technologies: Hazelcast, Memcached, Redis.

• Familiarity with the Linux ecosystem and working in financial services domain.

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field (required).

• Master’s degree preferred.
