Role Overview: Materials Support Specialist

Position Summary

As a Materials Support Specialist within the Brownfield Projects Organization (BPO) at ExxonMobil’s Global Projects Organization, you will:
✔ Provide Materials Engineering technical support to capital projects.
✔ Work closely with multi-disciplinary teams to improve materials engineering processes.
✔ Oversee engineering contractors to enhance quality, cost, and schedule performance.
✔ Ensure alignment between design scope, engineering plans, and project execution.

Key Responsibilities

???? Project Support & Materials Engineering:

• Develop Stage 2 and Stage 3 project deliverables, including scope definition, technical design basis, and engineering surveillance plans.
• Review Engineering and Procurement proposals from contractors and provide recommendations to the Project Manager.
• Assess and monitor the competency and performance of contractor engineers.
• Ensure contractor deliverables meet technical and operational requirements.
• Participate in project design reviews (e.g., HAZOP).

???? Contractor Oversight & Quality Control:

• Perform engineering criticality assessments and review contractor work.
• Identify systemic challenges in quality and schedule adherence.
• Conduct assessments/audits of contractor processes to ensure compliance.
• Ensure deliverables are cost-effective and fit-for-purpose.

???? Technical Leadership & Decision-Making:

• Provide materials selection for Greenfield and Brownfield projects.
• Develop materials specifications for procurement and project needs.
• Review materials test reports, mill certificates, and inspection documents.
• Perform corrosion calculations using proprietary and third-party tools.
• Support procurement, fabrication, construction, commissioning, and startup activities.
• Lead failure analysis investigations and recommend corrective actions.

???? Collaboration & Mentorship:

• Coordinate with global SMEs to ensure compliance with safety and reliability standards.
• Provide technical mentoring to early-career engineers.
• Facilitate knowledge sharing across global teams and business affiliates.
• Align key technical decisions with Site Engineering Specialists and project managers.

Skills & Qualifications

✅ Education:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Metallurgy/Materials Engineering or related field.

✅ Experience:

• 10+ years of experience in Materials Engineering within the oil & gas industry, including project support.
• Strong background in materials selection, corrosion control, welding/fabrication, and inspection/testing.

✅ Technical Skills:

• Expertise in engineering surveillance, failure analysis, and corrosion prediction.
• Ability to review and approve engineering and procurement proposals.
• Proficiency in materials specifications and lifecycle cost analysis.

✅ Soft Skills & Leadership Qualities:

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to handle multiple priorities and stakeholders.
• Effective problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
• Flexibility to travel internationally as needed.
• Comfortable working in afternoon shifts (1:30 PM – 10:30 PM IST).
